The impact of prosthetic therapy on masticatory efficiency and cognitive abilities of partially edentulous individuals
Biomedicine and Health Sciences/uniri projects by experienced researchers
The lack of teeth results in inadequate function of the stomatognathic system. In addition to chewing, aesthetics and speech, the lack of teeth is associated with reduced cognitive abilities, which are manifested through changes in memory, speech abilities and motor and executive function. The study will examine the association of prosthetic care of partial edentulism with changes in chewing efficiency, cognitive abilities and salivary BDNF levels. The study will include 90 patients divided into two groups according to age, and each age group will be divided into 3 groups depending on the degree of edentulism. Prosthetic therapy will be provided by making partial dentures with a metal cast base. Patients will be measured for chewing efficiency (method of chewing artificial silicone food, chewing function questionnaire), cognitive functions (MMT and Montreal test) and BDNF levels (ELISA) before therapy and three, six and twelve months after therapy.
