Verifiable Distributed Secure Cloud Biometrics
Technical Sciences/uniri projects by experienced researchers
Traditional centralized biometric authentication systems pose significant risks to privacy and security due to the immutable nature of biometric data and the danger of concentrating sensitive information. The project Verifiable Distributed Secure Cloud Biometrics (VerDi-SCB) proposes a novel decentralized approach to address these challenges. The project integrates advanced cryptographic techniques such as Verifiable Secret Sharing Schemes (VSSS), optimized Secure Multi-Party Computation (SMPC), targeted Verifiable Computing (VC), and blockchain technologies to develop a secure, efficient, and verifiable cloud-based biometric authentication system while preserving privacy. Key goals include secure data distribution, performance optimization of distributed matching on resource-constrained nodes, and ensuring the verifiability of critical operations in an untrusted environment. Through constructive research and rigorous empirical evaluation on a dedicated testnet, the project will deliver and validate a prototype of the proposed system. VerDi-SCB is expected to significantly enhance the privacy, security, and trustworthiness of biometric authentication, set new standards in the field, and enable wider adoption of privacy-respecting solutions.
